Living in an Island is a dream for most people especially if
there's no one else but you and your loved ones!
In fact, there's nothing quite so private as a whole island to
one's self. And since getting shipwrecked involves so much arts and crafts and
sunburn, the easiest route is buying your own. Florida is especially stocked
with private islands, which range from relatively affordable and rustic to
luxurious fortified playgrounds with balconied houses and helipads.
A new
$12 million island has been listed about a quarter-mile off the shore of
Marathon, Fla., the property is built onto a coral reef and sits 15 feet above
the blue, blue sea, offering 360-degree views. The property is known as East
Sister Rock Island and comes with a 2,500-square-foot Bahamian-style house. We
won't ask what happens come hurricane season.
The
property has been used as a luxury private rental. Its house has a large
veranda wrapping around it and bringing the living space to 5,000 square feet.
The home has three bedrooms and an open kitchen-dining area, and no neighbors.
The
island is accessible only by boat or private helicopter and there is both a
boat dock and a helipad. Wind turbines and solar panels provide all the home's
electricity. Life in the islands is slower then in the mainland. Many daily
task and operations work on "Island Time" which means slowly and
without haste. * Some notes taken from Huffpost Miami & Realtor.com
